LOCAL LAW 97

What is Local Law 97?

Local Law 97 (LL97) is the centerpiece of New York's Climate Mobilization Act (CMA), which includes a series of environmental local laws passed since 2018. LL97 mandates that buildings meet certain carbon limits over a series of compliance periods. The first limit is set to kick in 2024 and will impact approximately 50,000 buildings across New York City (those larger than 25,000 square feet). See our LL97 fact page for more information and resources.

How might it impact you?

Depending on your building occupancy type, your energy mix, and emissions intensity (metric tons of CO2e per square foot) your compliance requirements & timeline might vary.

How can you prepare?

It's never too early to begin planning for LL97. By 2030, approximately 75% of New York's buildings over 25,000 square feet will be non-compliant. Book a free consultation to start planning now.

CLIENTS

Our experience spans all areas of the real-estate market, from affordable housing cooperatives to private institutional clients. Different building-types have unique compliance standards when it comes to LL97.

The current market for LL97 services includes a cadre of disjointed consulting & project management services to achieve compliance. There is no shortage of reputable environmental engineering firms who will provide energy audits and other building system reports, grant writing consultants who will provide federal, local rebate analysis and applications, and project management firms who will assist in issuing RFPs, hiring contractors, and managing budgets. However, there are few dedicated firms who provide all of the above services with a focus on LL97. This provides a unique opportunity for those building owners who are seeking compliance, without the need for superfluous contracts and added financial costs. A centralized engineering, financial and project management service allows us to vertically integrate all of the above functions seamlessly.

A great example of this is our proprietary LL97 cost-benefit analysis, which offers a side-by-side comparison of all possible compliance pathways.
